Fundraising Campaigns

The Order, supported by its Foundation, offers a curated suite of charitable and non-charitable fundraising campaigns aligned with our mission for our membership to support, both at the national and Priory levels.

The Foundation is incorporated with charitable status and is led by a separate Board of Directors. The Foundation works closely with The Order in all fundraising efforts and identifies appropriate qualified donees whose purpose aligns with those of The Order and the Foundation.

When you make a donation to one of our Fundraising Campaigns, you will receive a tax receipt from the Foundation of The Order of St. George. Once the Fundraising Campaign is concluded, the Foundation, on behalf of The Order, will disburse the funds to the organization for which the campaign was conducted.

HISTORY

Our inaugural good works program was undertaken in support of the newly-created Military Families Fund. As one of the first organizations to commit to this charitable initiative, Grand Prior Chevalier Gareth Green presented a cheque for $10,000 to General General Rick Hillier, Chief of the Defence Staff in 2007.

The Order of St. George Cadet Medal of Merit

The Cadet Medal of Merit was established by The Order of St. George with the approval of the Canadian Armed Forces Director of Cadets in February 2016 and is awarded annually to Canadian Cadets and Junior Canadian Rangers who have distinguished themselves as exemplary “top” Staff Cadets at their respective training centres.

The Commanding Officers of the training centres are responsible for selecting the recipients of the Cadet Medal of Merit, based primarily on the following criteria:

Met all the requirements of the training centre
Regarded by peers and superiors as an exemplary Cadet or Junior Canadian Ranger
Demonstrated outstanding leadership, instructional ability, and compassion
Participated in community service events sponsored by the training centre

It is customary for a Knight or Dame of The Order of St. George to present the Cadet Medal of Merit to the selected recipients during the Graduation Parade.

The medal is silver in colour, engraved with the symbol of St. George slaying the dragon and the Latin words, Pro Merito. On the reverse are the badges of the three Cadet Organizations and the Junior Canadian Ranger Program.

Order of St. George Raises $54,046 to support the
Mental Health of Canadian Veterans by assisting with the
Resettlement of Afghan Interpreters – December 2021

In the fall of 2021 and in partnership with True Patriot Love Foundation, The Order of St. George launched a fundraising campaign to support the mental health of Canadian Veterans by assisting with the resettlement of Afghan interpreters, cultural advisors and locally employed people who were essential to Canada’s mission in Afghanistan. The campaign was completed on December 31^st, 2021, and raised $54,046 to be disbursed to the True Patriot Love Foundation Afghan Resettlement Fund, which will “be distributed across Canada to local organizations working directly with Afghan refugees and their families as they adapt to life in Canada, providing support for legal costs, housing, language training, mental health supports, employment and education training and more.”

About True Patriot Love Foundation: Founded in 2009, True Patriot Love Foundation is Canada’s leading organization in support of serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces, Veterans, and their families. The Foundation raises awareness around the challenges related to military service and funds programs that support their well-being, enable rehabilitation and recovery from injury, assist the children and spouses of those who serve, and promote re-integration back into communities following service.

to Assist Veterans During COVID-19 Pandemic – July 2020

In the spring of 2020, The Order of St. George launched a national fundraising campaign to assist veterans struggling with the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the span of about three months, Knights and Dames of The Order raised $15,000, which was donated through the Legion National Foundation to help veterans in need. Legion branches were closed during the pandemic, but their members were doing “boots on the ground” work at the branch level all across the country to help veterans who were struggling as a result of the pandemic, whether by buying groceries for those who couldn’t risk going out, or by offering financial assistance for veterans who couldn’t make ends meet in the sudden crisis.

About the Legion National Foundation: The Legion National Foundation was created to remember, honour, and assist those who have served or continue to serve in the Canadian Armed Forces and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, through financial support of both programs and charities that carry on the tradition of Remembrance; and to support the education of CAF and RCMP families.
