HMCS Kootenay Explosion 50th Memorial

Kootenay survivors, their families, supporters, men and women from the Royal Canadian Navy held a moving ceremony at the Bonaventure Anchor Memorial to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Kootenay explosion. The explosion occurred 23 October 1969, east of the English Channel. Nine sailors were killed and dozens injured by fire and smoke inhalation. It was the Royal Canadian Navy’s worst peacetime disaster.

Chevalier Steve Rowland was the Master of Ceremony and Chevalier John Montague gave the Eulogy. Both are survivors of the explosion.
